Carbon emissions escape from a factory into the earths's atmosphere
The cycle of carbon emissions into the atmosphere
About
Air quality is a major concern for Mayor Walsh, and is still yet to be solved. Although progress has been made since the early 2000’s, the city of Boston emitted 6.4 million metric tons of greenhouse gases in 2018, which was in increase from the year prior. Mayor Walsh has promised by 2050 that the city will be neutral in carbon emissions, but when laws go without reinforcement or punishment, not much change occurs. Companies and businesses must be held accountable.
Not only are carbon emissions coming from factories and large companies, but also from vehicles. In 2019, Transdev North America, a company providing transportation services for public schools in the Boston area and operates bus lots throughout the city, was in violation of Boston’s Clean Air Act and guilty of spreading of harmful air pollutants into nearby neighborhoods. It was documented that there was a total of 697 minutes of buses idling over a nine day period within the city of Boston. The state of Massachusetts limits the amount of allowable idling time by diesel vehicles to 5 minutes and Transdev vehicles were observed on numerous occasions idling for upwards of 30 minutes in some areas.
